Report for Webinar on "Modernising Dental Education in Pakistan: Challenges and Solutions"

15th January 2021- In collaboration with Pakistan Prosthodontics Association and Pak Association of Dental Research, a webinar was organized entitled “on “Modernising Dental Education in Pakistan: Challenges and Solutions “. The facilitator was Prof. Dr. Kamran Ali [PhD, MMeD, BDS (Hons), FDSRCS (Eng), FCPS (Pak), FFDRCS (Ire) FFDTEd (Glasg) PFHEA (UK) National Teaching Fellow ],Professor of Dental Education and Consultant in Oral Surgery, Peninsula Dental School (Faculty of Health), University of Plymouth, UK. Around 350 registrations were received from all over Pakistan and also from consultants practicing in countries like England and Saudi Arabia.

The session started by an address by Prof. Dr. Nasir Saleem ( HOD Department of Operative Dentistry, Institute of Dentistry CMH LMC), who gave a brief review about the managing bodies of PPA and PADR and their activities in the past year. The session was then handed over to Prof. Dr. Kamran Ali.

He gave an enlightening presentation about the deficiencies in the dental educational system in Pakistan and the ways and solutions to addressing those challenges according to the modernization taking place in the global education system. At the end of the session, an interactive question and answer session was held, during which prestigious dental academicians discussed the practical challenges faced by them and their solutions. At the end a vote of thanks was given by Prof. Dr. Hina Zafar Raja (President PADR & PPA) to the worthy facilitator and the prestigious dental academicians attending the session. Notable amongst them were Prof. Fazal e Ghani (Late) (Dean of Peshawar Dental College), Prof. Ulfat Bashir (Principal Islamic International Dental College), Prof. Abid Ashar (Vice Principal and HOD Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, FMH College of Medicine & Dentistry), Prof. Dr. Amjad Wyne (Institute of Dentistry CMH LMC), Prof. Dr. Maryam Wahid (Foundation University Islamabad) to name a few. The session received a tremendous response from all attendees. Attendance certificates of 1 CPD hour were awarded to all attendees.
